RIP Senator Robert Byrd

Senator Robert Byrd served West Virginia and America in the U.S. Senate for 51 years. He is the longest serving senator and longest serving congressman in American history, serving for six years in the U.S. House of Representatives before becoming a senator.  That’s 57 years total, folks.

He served as Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and President pro tempore of the United States Senate (which made him third in line for the presidency).  He also served on a number of committees throughout his illustrious career.

Senator Byrd passed away on June 28, 2010.  He brought immeasurable good to the state of West Virginia and he will forever be beloved and missed.
